ODFW Fishing Report for the MIddle & Upper Rogue River

Rogue River, middle: steelhead, trout, spring chinook
Summer steelhead have been caught in the middle Rogue on spoons and spinners. A size 6 black panther martin with gold blades is a favorite lure for Rogue steelhead. Good early returns of summer steelhead to Cole Rivers Hatchery mean that fish are available. Some bright chinook are being reported between Gold Hill and the Gold Ray damsite. The flow at Grants Pass was 2560 cfs and the river temperature around 63F on July 31.
Rogue River, upper: steelhead, trout, spring chinook
Very good numbers of early run summer steelhead are in the upper river. A total of 1,188 summers have entered Cole Rivers Hatchery as of July 25, the second highest total since the year 2000, and 152 fish were new arrivals. Already this year over 800 hatchery steelhead have been recycled back into the fishery as well. Back-trolling small plugs or casting Panther Martins with black bodies and gold blades have worked well for trout and summer steelhead. Fishing for chinook closes upstream of Dodge Bridge on Aug. 1. Fishing continues between the Gold Ray damsite and Dodge Bridge through the month of August.
