1st King Salmon Reported in the Hatchery, Upper Rogue River

May 5, 2017 The 1st hatchery spring king salmon have been counted at Cole M. Rivers Hatchery, upper Rogue river near Trail Oregon. Even with high rivers flows this spring, salmon have made it to the upper Rogue. Water temperatures in the low 60's and rising in the Grants Pass area encourage salmon to migrate upstream to cooler waters of the upper river near Shady Cove (Just north of Medford). The majority of fish reported to have been caught have been between the hatchery and Rogue Elk Park.

Due to warm weather this past week and the resultant snow melt, larger than normal amounts of water have been released and will continue to be released at William L. Jess Dam at Lost Creek Lake (upper Rogue) through Saturday. The current outflow at the dam is 7000 cfs and rising.  The water should be on the drop by Sunday and with mild spring like weather conditions should be perfect for early spring salmon fishing.
