Rogue River Oregon Salmon and Steelhead Fishing Report

Fishing-The-Rogue

September 17, 2017 Southern Oregon Salmon and Steelhead Fishing Report, Rogue Fishing

Fishing The Rogue guides report that fishing conditions have improved over the past week with wildfire smoke significantly decreased, cooler temperatures and a push of fresh salmon and steelhead into the middle Rogue river.

Guides and anglers, on the lower Rogue near the coast, report catching lots of fresh from the ocean salmon, which is a sure sign that more fish are headed upstream. Large numbers of salmon have been observed jumping the falls at Rainie near Grants Pass (a great hike if you get a chance!) and we have a few days of rain forcasted here in southern Oregon early this week which will encourage fish to move further upriver to the cooler water of the middle and upper Rogue.

Our salmon guides have been having multiple fish days fishing in the Grants Pass and Gold Hill (near Medford) area. Guides have been fishing with roe, protected by spawn sacks, and large tuna wrapped plugs.

Rogue river fall salmon & summer steelhead fishing should continue to improve through September and into early October.

Our fly fishing guides have been finding most success fishing the upper Rogue using egg patterns. There are plenty of steelhead and trout in the upper river near Shady Cove. Salmon, in the upper Rogue, have now moved onto their spawning beds, preparing for the next generation of kings.

There is abundant wildlife in and around the Rogue and we have observed an increase in activity with the onset of fall.
