Rogue River Fishing Guides' Report - It's Time For Spring Salmon!

May 3, 2018 Fishing The Rogue guide, Brady and guest Wayne landed our 1st spring Chinook king salmon last week fishing on the upper Rogue river near Shady Cove. Rain and cooler weather moved in at the end of the week which increased river levels and warming air temperatures this week, which has raised the river temperature, seemed to have encouraged salmon to move quickly upstream to the cooler waters of the upper river.

The 1st solid numbers of spring salmon have arrived in the upper Rogue. The river level has now steadied and is on a slight decline, the weather has warmed and the salmon bite has turned on in the upper holes between the Cole M. Rivers Hatchery and Shady Cove over the past few days (Shady Cove, located just north of Medford).

The majority of hatchery spring salmon come early in the run. If keeping a spring Chinook interests you, now's the time to fish the Rogue. Spring salmon fishing on the Rogue will continue to be productive through July just as the fall salmon arrive in the upper river.

Our guides fish for king salmon on the Rogue May through September.
